2013 THELONIOUS MONK INTERNATIONAL JAZZ SAXOPHONE COMPETITION

First place        $25,000 & Concord Music Group recording contract
Second place    $15,000
Third place        $10,000

The Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition is open to all saxophonists who plan to pursue jazz performance as a career. Eligibility is exclusive to saxophonists who will be 30 years of age and under as of September 16, 2013 and have never recorded as a leader on a major label or widely distributed independent label. Fifty percent of each prize will be paid directly to the winner. The remaining funds will be applied toward the winner’s future musical education. The semifinals will be held at The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History's Baird Auditorium on September 15 and the competition finals will be held at the Kennedy Center on September 16th.
